If OVO Fest is a measure of Drake’s superstar status, he’s slipping.

Drizzy-Drake delivered an underwhelming cast of surprises on Monday night, with bust-outs by Usher and 50 Cent paling in comparison to the nearly historic shows of years past.

The hip-hop and rap festival, now in its fifth year, was incapable of drawing a single contemporary megastar. If the concert is pegged as a premier who’s-who in music, it missed the mark.

Before the concert, things looked grim. Clouds loomed like great grey brains over the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre, brimming with thoughts of rain.

But by some good fortune, the clouds thinned as the first performer, Jhené Aiko, breezed onto the stage.

Sadly, her vocals were less than airy and came off rather monotonous. Her stage presence left much to be desired.

Lauryn Hill, Trey Songz, YG, DJ Khaled, J. Cole, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Jordan Ullman and Tinashe, with Usher and 50 Cent sealed the night. Past years have included Nicki Minaj, 2 Chainz, The Weeknd, A$AP Rocky and an artist formerly known as Snoop Dogg.

Drake first burst onto stage in a black T-shirt as the wonderfully punchy Lauryn Hill sang “Draft Day” and then the classic “Doo Wop (That Thing).” Drizzy bowed to Hill before stealing the mic and launching into “We Made It,” his ode to, well, making it.

As far as Drake’s performances went, they struck a perfect combination of theatrics and simplicity. Hard throwbacks such as “Unstoppable” and “The Motto” were mixed in with poppier chart-toppers “The Language” and “Started from the Bottom.”

When new performers took the stage – J. Cole with “Can’t Get Enough,” Trey Songz with “Na Na” – Drake often danced around them, revolving nearby like an extra moon, sometimes jamming to air-keyboard or dancing in the corner by himself.

Drizzy’s only real blip in the night came in the form of a cameo with Majid Al Maskati, one half of Majid Jordan, the duo sampled on his 2013 hit “Hold On, We’re Going Home.” Maskati was visibly nervous in front of the crowd, and his typically auto-tuned voice seemed off-key when stacked beside the man who made him.

There was even a certain whiff of “Who is this guy?” that Ullman seemed to notice himself.

“All the guys looking at me confused, you should be looking at the girl next to you!” he said midway through the song, gesturing to men near the front. Cringe.

Fortunately Usher brought the show back up with some of his best music, including “Good Kisser,” a catchy new single from his imminent studio album.

50 Cent and G-Unit emerged near the show’s end to become the finale, dropping “In Da Club,” “I Get Money,” and “What up Gangster” to massive screams. And yet, while the performances were chock-full of bravado, they came off as little more than loud and abrasive.

It was therefore a relief as Drake took the stage to round off the night with goodbye performances of “Believe Me,” “Worst Behavior” and his excellent new track “0-100.”

While OVO Fest certainly offered up a fun night of solid performances, Drake didn’t quite reach the legendary bar he set in years past. Still, he ended the night with a familiar resolution.

“I promise you, it only gets bigger. It only gets better,” he said breathlessly, sweat dripping down his forehead.

We’ll see. 2/4 Stars.

I hope Drake gets shot in the mouth or gets hit by a car. I'm sick and tired of him. Drake is so motherfucking ugly. Even his mother is ugly. He can't sing, he can't rap. He's just a fucking bitch. He is a waste of life. I swear.

Drake is very delusional and unstable. His songs and his actions prove it.

Had the pleasure of photographing Allan Rayman on his latest video, as if he was born into the sunset strip during the late 60's, raised in the concrete jungles of the 90's, next big thing from Toronto. An artist of rap n' roll, just won the worldwide Unsigned Artist Only contest for his LA NY CHI (Monopoly) song.
